'Barbara Mandrell and the Mandrell Sisters,' had little competition for the best musical series of the season with five nominations. Nominated for best drama series were 'Dallas,' 'Hill Street Blues,' 'Lou Grant,' 'Quincy,' and 'The White Shadow.' Leading the dramatic series in number of nominations was the prime time soap opera, 'Dallas,' with six. Nominated for outstanding comedy series were, 'Barney Miller,' 'M-A-S-H,' 'Soap,' 'Taxi,' 'WKRP in Cincinnati.'
'Taxi,' and 'Mash,' as usual, carried off the most nominations for situation comedy shows with nine each. The nominees in all categories were a hodge-podge of time-worn shows and newcomers.
